DELF
The DELF is a certificate which stands for Diplôme d’ Etudes en Langue Française, and is delivered by the Ministry for Education in France. It is recognised worldwide and allows students to have their level in French acknowledged wherever they are and it is a huge bonus within the European Union and beyond in terms of career opportunities.
It is set against the Cadre Européen Commun de Référence, which is a linguistic benchmarking in all languages and deriving from the European Council.
The diploma is made up of four exams, each of them assessing the four basic linguistic competences: aural, reading, written and oral. In 4th year, students will do the A2 level and in 5th year the B1.
The content of the exams is very relevant to the Leaving Certificate especially the oral and aural.
The exams take place every year around January/February in the Alliance Francaise in Dublin.
