Chaplaincy
Newpark has a fulltime school chaplain appointed by the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin. The chaplain is the Rev Suzanne Harris and she has worked in Newpark since 1992.
The chaplain teaches 10 hours of formal classes of Religious Education and Geography and spends the rest of the week involved in activities related to pastoral care for students and staff.
The chaplain is part of the Student Support Team with the Nurses and the Guidance Counsellors. This team meets every week to discuss students that need some extra care and attention.
The chaplain meets all the 1st Year Students for an informal chat on a one to one basis to get to know them better. She also sees students on an appointment basis when they request a meeting.
The Chaplain and the Nurses run a “Rainbows Course” for students in the school. This course is a 10 week programme that offers peer support for students who have experienced loss either through bereavement or parental separation.
The Chaplain also organises the Carol Service at Christmas, special Easter Events and the 6th year Graduation Service in May.
She is also available to meet with any parents who have concerns regarding their children and can be contacted by email at suzanne.harris@newparkschool.ie or by telephoning the school number 2883724 extension 322.
