Student Council

Here are the minutes from our last few meetings so you know what we’ve been up to:

26th november 2009 (Meeting with Junior and Senior Councils)

• Positive behaviour policy
• Late system
• Electronic devices in ears rule
• Food confiscation
• Lack of bells in certain classes and prefect room
• Lunch rooms- need more for break etc.
• Smoking rules?
• PTA raffle – very important funds go to getting new bike racks!
• Dennis (treasurer) was chosen to price bike racks
• Student travel cards – ISSU cards – Siobhan Burrington chosen as liaison officer.
• Website needs to be updated and modified etc.

11th November 2009 ( Meeting with Senior Student Council and Board of Management)

• Introduced ourselves (Chairperson, Secretarty, Communications officer)
• Informed on the roles and aims of the board of management.
• Discussed elections – how we were elected initially as representatives and then how we were elected as officers.
• Discussed the number of representatives and perhaps that there could be another way of electing so that the council was smaller
• Issues Disscuessed with board of management that were concerns to us:
  After school study
  Financial holdbacks
  Maintenence and general state of toilets
  Positive behavoir policy overveiw
• We talked about having more communication with the board of management and possibly an annual meeting.

1st October 2009 (First Senior Student Council Meeting of School Year 2009)

• Introduced to student council
• Officers were elected as follows:
  Chairperson- Siobhan Burrington
  Deputy Chairperson- Robert Murhpy
  Treasurer- Dennis Stranjack
  Secretary- Aoise Raynor
  Communications- Roisin Nolan
• Mr. Lowry talked to us about his hopes for the student council
• Issues of toilets was discussed – lack of toilet roll – smoking -location – lack of soap. Ideas needed to be resumed next meeting if resolutions are thought of
• Meeting with board of management discussed- Committee to be decided
• Hand sanitizers- needed in the school building? swine flu fear?
