Art, Craft and Design

In the curricular subject of Art Craft and Design for Junior and Senior Cycle we work to achieve the following aims:

• To enhance student visual awareness of the world, through an exploration of a wide range of media in two and three dimensions
• To encourage the students to explore their own creative process and learn the visual language of Art and Design.
• To prepare the students for all curricular exams and take them through the necessary processes.
• To foster and encourage a love of Art and Design by instilling a solid grounding in all basic curricular disciplines, i.e. art elements and confident exploration of visual media.
• To expose the students to a wide range of works of Art, Craft and Design, through the History and Appreciation of art and Design course, and through careful and imaginative choices of Support Studies for practical projects.

Transition Year

We pride ourselves on the provision of a diverse and exciting range of Visual Arts options for Transition Year. At present Option A Art are involved in a remarkable sculpture project funded by Creative Engagement and facilitated by The Grainstore. Option B Art are working on the Voice Our Concerns initiative with Amnesty International. Both of these projects will result in students’ work being featured in public exhibitions outside school.

We offer Digital Photography on a modular basis as an Arts Option.

Film Making in Work Area is a great opportunity to learn and develop the skills involved in making movies, from generating concepts, through planning and shooting and on to editing and publishing a finished short film.

Extra Curricular

Comics Club meets in C5 at 1.10 pm every Monday. We are developing our own Comic Books. Come along if you would like to find out more.
