PTA
Newpark’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is a vibrant and dedicated group of parents and teachers. The committee is elected at the Association’s Annual General Meeting each September, and then meets monthly thereafter until June. The committee elects three officers: chairperson, treasurer and secretary. The remainder of the committee is made up of seven parents, and a minimum of two teachers. The Association aims to have a mix of men and women on its committee. All committee activities are undertaken on a voluntary basis.
The Newpark PTA committee is a very busy and productive one, and each year it organizes a range of activities, both value added and fund raising. Just a few examples of PTA-run activities are:
- Dream Auction (2008-2009 school year) – fundraiser
- Newpark Masked Ball (2010-2011 school year) – non-profit event aimed at gathering together the wider Newpark community
- Working with the student council (ongoing) – In 2009-2010 the PTA ran fundraisers (bake sales, Christmas raffle, sponsored silence) and used the monies raised to purchase and install facilities requested by the student council, namely bike racks and a water cooler.
- Pre-debs reception (annual) – every October the PTA hosts and runs a wine reception in the school for the previous year’s sixth-year students and their parents, before they head off to their Debs ball… and onward into the world!
- Parent evenings by year (ongoing) – each year the PTA aims to invite parents of year groups to the school to an event, either purely social or with a guest speaker. These evenings are a great way of getting to know your child’s friends’ parents or guardians, and to keep in touch with the life of the school.
